Tech Bar - Proposal to the SBC Board of Directors

We would like to see Sweet Briar combine the ARC with a "Tech Bar" concept similar to the one they have at Bryn Mawr College. The ARC / Tech Bar would be located near (or as part of) the circulation desk of the library and close by a small computer lab. ARC / Tech Bar would be under the control of the library director and managed by an Instrutional Technologist with a staff of at least one full-time recently-graduated student employee (could be a one - two year appointment) with a team of part-time student employees. The ARC / Tech Bar mission would be to help with homework, writing, and software use / training, while hardware & network problems would continue to be handled by Computer Services. Ideally, the ARC / Tech Bar would triage problems and refer issues to Computer Services or to a Reference Librarian as appropriate. It would have its own website and email contact for the convenience of all stakeholders at Sweet Briar College.

Careers Event

Just got back from the Government/International Affairs/Law Careers Event that took place from 5pm to 8:30pm... I had dinner with a lot of important federal government people and they were nice and some were Alum from SBC... I got some good networking in for both me and my boyfriend, but I also got some good tips on how to proceed with looking for internships/jobs... Advice for others in years to come go to as many of these Career Networking Events even if its not in your field because you might learn a thing or two about how to go about getting noticed in the career world
